Evaluation of Impulse Oscillometry in Respiratory Airway Casts with Varying Obstruction Phenotypes, Locations, and Complexities

چکیده
The use of impulse oscillometry (IOS) for lung function testing does not need patient cooperation and has gained increasing popularity among both young senior populations, as well in patients with breathing difficulties. However, studies the IOS sensitivity to regional obstructions are limited have shown mixed results. objective this study was evaluate performance an system 3D-printed models structural abnormalities at different locations severities. Lung trees two complexity levels were tested, one extending sixth generation (G6) other G12. responses varying glottal apertures, carina ridge tumors, segmental bronchial constrictions quantified G6 geometry. Both G12 casts prepared using high-resolution 3D printers. Overall, detected progressive airway considered study. resonant frequency dropped all three disease phenotypes models. R20Hz increased increase obstructions. Specifically, model apertures agreed reasonably complementary measurements TSI VelociCalc. In contrast high-resistance (R) models, R nearly independent demonstrated adequate remodeling central airways. changes R5Hz X5Hz vs. inconclusive study, possibly due rigid difference a container–syringe from human lungs.

متن کاملExercise-induced airway obstruction in young asthmatics measured by impulse oscillometry.
BACKGROUND Impulse oscillometry (IOS) is a good method for measuring airway resistance. It does not require special breathing skills and it can reflect different aspects of airway obstruction to those revealed by spirometry, which is an effort-dependent maneuver. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the characteristics of airway obstruction in young asthmatics after an exercise bronchial provocation test (E...
متن کاملAssessment of central airway obstruction using impulse oscillometry before and after interventional bronchoscopy.
BACKGROUND Spirometry is used to physiologically assess patients with central airway obstruction (CAO) before and after interventional bronchoscopy, but is not always feasible in these patients, does not localize the anatomic site of obstruction, and may not correlate with the patient's functional impairment. Impulse oscillometry may overcome these limitations. We assessed the correlations betw...
متن کاملApplication of impulse oscillometry in respiratory system evaluation in elderly patients.
INTRODUCTION Spirometry, which is a basic diagnostic tool of the respiratory system, may cause problems to patients of advanced age because of required cooperation and specific respiratory manoeuvres. Impulse oscillometry (IOS) may be an interesting alternative for spirometry as the examination is made during quiet breathing and gives information about resistive properties of the respiratory sy...
